What is a man and a woman? If we look beyond the genders, these are energies of 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, not limited to gender but a universal principle that exists in all beings.
True harmony comes when the masculine and feminine energies within us are balanced—when 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗴𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝘆 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆
Ways to integrate these energies,
𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 (nurturing, intuitive, creative, and connected to the rhythms of nature and the universe)
- 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲: Walk barefoot on earth, be near water, or spend time in nature
- 𝗘𝗺𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀: Meditation, journaling, or breathwork help tune into your inner voice.
- 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻: Painting, dancing, or writing awaken the feminine flow within.
𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 (action, structure, protection, and purpose)
- 𝗦𝗲𝘁 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 & 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Define your purpose and take practical steps toward achieving it.
- 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Protect your energy by setting clear personal and professional boundaries.
- 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵-𝗕𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: Yoga, strength training, or martial arts enhance focus and discipline.
The key is for us to identify what energy do we tap into today to make the most of the given situation
- How do you experience and balance these energies in your life?
- Where did you felt deeply connected to one over the other?
- What practices help you find harmony between softness and strength, intuition and action?
We would love to hear your stories, reflections, and insights. Your journey could inspire someone else on their path to balance and healing!
These views are expressed by our healer Ashwita
I observe two types of relationships in the world: Power-based and Love-based. They are usually mutually exclusive, although one might learn to shift from one to another. I’m talking about all types of relationships, not just romantic ones, but friendships, parental bonds, sibling dynamics, professional interactions—everything.
Power-Based Relationships
Power-based relationships are the popular choice. Most of what is thought of as love is not love at all, but a power struggle. We think we love, but in reality, we seek dominance and control. Such relationships often involve subtle or overt bullying. There may be anger outbursts or tantrums, emotional blackmail, passive-aggressive comments, or even complete avoidance of conflict—sweeping everything under the rug to maintain a fragile peace. The underlying aim is to ‘make’ the other do what we want, whether through intimidation, guilt, or manipulation.
Unfortunately, many people don’t realize they are in power-based relationships. They assume love means sacrifice, submission, or constantly fighting to be heard. In romantic relationships, this can manifest as one partner making all the decisions while the other is expected to comply. In friendships, it can look like one friend always setting the terms while the other follows along, fearful of upsetting the balance. In families, parents might exert control over their children’s choices under the guise of love, believing they know best, while children, in turn, might manipulate their parents with guilt or rebellion.
Love-Based Relationships
Love-based relationships, on the other hand, are much rarer because they require trust and genuine connection. The foundation is respect, even in the face of anger, frustration, or insecurity. People in such relationships talk about their problems openly because they know they will be heard and respected. The goal is not to win but to resolve conflicts by finding a middle ground. Love-based relationships prioritize freedom and individual choice, trusting that both parties are committed to the relationship without the need for coercion or control.
These relationships are about two responsible, self-aware individuals walking together rather than one dragging the other along. They are built on mutual support rather than expectations and demands. Such relationships foster personal growth, as both individuals are free to be themselves without fear of judgment or control.
The Clash Between Power and Love
The most disturbing situations arise when these two dynamics collide—when someone who seeks control and dominance interacts with someone who believes in freedom and responsibility. In such cases, the relationship can quickly become abusive, with the love-based individual being manipulated, gaslit, or taken advantage of. If they remain unaware of the imbalance, they may continue to tolerate unhealthy behavior, believing they need to be more understanding or giving.
This becomes even worse when the power-seeker presents a charming, people-pleasing facade to the outside world. They may appear kind, generous, and perfect to others while being controlling and emotionally draining behind closed doors—a Jekyll and Hyde personality. The love-based individual may struggle to explain their suffering because others only see the manipulator’s mask of perfection.
Choosing Love Over Power
Recognizing these patterns is the first step to shifting towards love-based relationships. It requires self-reflection: Are we seeking to control, or are we truly supporting our loved ones? Do we express our needs openly, or do we resort to manipulation? Are we choosing partners, friends, or colleagues who respect us, or are we drawn into toxic dynamics?
Breaking free from power-based relationships takes courage, especially if we have been conditioned to equate control with love. But in choosing love over power, we create relationships that nourish rather than deplete, that empower rather than suppress. And that is where true connection—and true love—begins.
I am often asked, why does healing sessions bring a drastic change in some peoples lives, while for some there is hardly any change. Why does this happen, when the therapy and the healer have been the same for both? Why am I stuck in healing? Why is my emotional journey not moving forward?
Healing isn’t always gentle. Sometimes it hurts. Sometimes it feels like you are stuck in the same dark loop — no change, no relief. If you have ever wondered, “Why doesn’t healing work for me?”, you’re not alone. You might be doing “everything right” therapy, self-care, positive thinking, manifestations and still feel stuck. Let’s explore the hidden reasons and how you can work through the struggles,
Healing doesn’t follow a straight line. It doesn’t climb steadily upwards. Instead, it often feels like a spiral: two steps forward, one step back.
There will be moments when you feel better hopeful, lighter, calm. And there will be times when old pain resurfaces out of nowhere. That doesn’t mean healing failed. It means you’re digging up buried layers, working through them.
Sometimes we expect healing to “fix everything fast.” We read about success stories, see before-after transformations and hope our pain will vanish overnight. But healing is not a magic trick. Real recovery happens slowly, with repeated care.
Just because you don’t instantly feel “better” doesn’t mean nothing is happening inside you. Growth starts silently inner shifts, subtle calm, small changes in reactions.
Sometimes, we approach healing with hesitation. We may intellectually understand our wounds but we don’t allow ourselves to feel them. We overthink, analyze, rationalize and avoid the pain instead of letting it surface. But emotions don’t disappear that way. They get buried and buried pain tends to resurface, stronger.
True healing isn’t just “thinking about feelings.” It’s allowing yourself to feel them sadness, anger, grief, fear and letting them move through you. This isn’t easy. That’s why many don’t go that deep.
Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. If your life is full of ongoing stress pressures at work, unstable relationships, unresolved trauma, lack of safety or support then those external factors can drown the healing process.
It’s like trying to grow a plant on a rocky surface. No matter how good the water or soil if conditions remain harsh, growth becomes almost impossible.
Different people need different kinds of healing. What works for one may not work for another. If the therapy or healing modality you chose doesn’t resonate or you’re not emotionally ready then results may stall.

Also, sometimes deep healing requires not just talk but body work, somatic processing, nervous-system regulation, finding what truly helps your mind–body system. It requires you to dig deep
Healing doesn’t always announce itself with fireworks. Often it begins quietly, with small shifts in how you feel day-to-day, think about yourself, react to others. Healing happens in the quite, when you least expect it, when you start becoming aware of what's happening around you and inside of you. ”
If you look around and feel like healing “isn’t working,” maybe healing isn’t the problem. Maybe circumstances old trauma, external pressures, lack of support, wrong methods are making it hard to take root.
Your pain isn’t a failure. Your hope isn’t naïve. Healing is hard because it asks you to feel when you want to numb, to trust when you’re scared, to stay when it’s easier to run away.

So be kind to yourself. Give yourself time. Recognize that healing IS happening even when it doesn’t feel like much. Because healing isn’t about being “fixed.” It’s about learning to live with all that you are: the scars, the strength, the softness, and the silent, stubborn light inside you that refuses to give up.
Its February and are you on track with your 2025 goals?
Most of our goals are related to numbers whether it is weight, income or revenues.
ELON MUSK recently said,
"Money is just a database for exchange of goods & services. Money doesn't have power in & of itself. The actual economy is goods & services."
This is exactly what we explored in our last Money Speaks workshop. Money isn’t just paper or numbers in a bank account—it’s energy. It’s a tool that allows us to create, experience, and flow with life.
When we fixate on a number, we limit ourselves. Instead, what if we focused on the experiences—the joy of traveling, the warmth of a home, the freedom to pursue what we love? What if these are our currencies?
The way we interact with it—our thoughts, emotions, and beliefs—shapes our financial reality. When we align with the energy of money, we open the door to more ease, flow, and abundance in our lives.
So, as you manifest your desires, set intentions for the experiences, feelings, and moments you wish to create—not just an amount. Work with the energy of money, rather than its form.
What experiences are you manifesting today?
When our ancestors were faced with danger, nature programmed them for 2 possibilities - either the problem was surmountable, which meant energising the body to fight the enemy, or the problem was too big, which meant energizing the body to run. Both options would immediate de-prioritise the digestive process, which is why some people can end up throwing out digested or undigested food or water through vomiting or passing urine or stools during stress. Also, now we have different challenges - we don't need to physically run towards or away from our boss or in laws, but the hormones are still released and can affect our health. Here's how.
After the intensity of the fight or flight response, the body 'crashes' in energy and the focus is on getting back to normal. Since as a society we are focused on consistent performance, these phases are shunned and the body is never given time to recover. We then offer the body a new stressor, and over time we get addicted to functioning on that artificial 'high' of the stress hormones.
Persistent stress due to difficulties in health, relationships and jobs will damage the digestive system over a long time and this creates a lot of secondary problems. Here are the signs I've frequently seen among my clients.
Because people have gotten used to functioning only on the energy provided by stress hormones, most people experiencing chronic stress are rarely self-motivated, functioning only when things go too far or a deadline is looming. When the 'danger' of a missed deadline floods their system with stress hormones, they are finally able to function. So they fluctuate between super-charged when the hormones are pumping through the system or 'lazy' and exhausted.
Due to the lack of energy the rest of the times, there can often be this feeling of spacing out from the world, some people may use binge-watching, binge eating or addictive substances as tools for this escape.
Most people will end up either feeling too hungry or not hungry enough as the digestive process is affected. Sleep can change as well, crashing out when exhausted and difficulty sleeping or shallow sleep otherwise. People living in situations where the body doesn't feel safe for whatever reason (abusive relationships for eg) can wake up at every little disturbance.
And one of the most telling signs I observe is the person's sensitivity to sound. When people are greatly affected by noise, this is very frequently a sign of the body being in a state of constant alarm.
Some people can experience these things after a specific incident, like a breakup or the death of a loved one or even the sudden loss of a job. In these cases, some good therapy can help the body get back to a state of ease and wellbeing. In cases where people are stuck in abusive relationships or workplaces, a lot more work is needed.
In either case, if you experience these please pay attention, because it doesn't take long before this becomes physical, causing issues like headaches, chronic fatigue or pain, brain fog, palpitations, IBS, anxiety and the hardest one - auto immune disorders.
If you have any of the signs above do consider therapy to identify and resolve the conflict
please watch out for these signs in your child as well. We don't need early interventions, no. We need parents who are working on themselves. Children model themselves after parents, and if parents are sorted, then they know better how to deal with children. This can change at any moment, but the core lesson is merely this - what do we value?
As a society we spend hours and hours earning money, that is a priority. Everything else is now secondary, that's the core issue. Spending 2% of our time on something that can improve our health, mind and relationships is too much of a burden. When we learn to prioritise the right things, our children follow suit, it really is that simple. Takes a few weeks or a few months, rarely ever more than that. Nature has designed children to biologically mimic parents.
We call them Reiki children, where parents practice Reiki from before conception or from the time the child is born or very young. It changes everything, the kids are very special. Even at this stage it isn't late for you. But the question is only - is it important enough yet?

How many times in the last few months do you recall going to a doctor for a physical ailment, taking medicines, and nothing seems to be working? Every doctor’s appointment becomes a cause of turmoil and let down.
Reiki sessions are often sought when we are disheartened by every other line of treatment. We may not have heard or experienced Reiki session before, but the more we learn about it the more we realise its benefit
In a typical Reiki for healing session, the healer channels energy to you by touch or transfers Reiki energy remotely in the case of distance Reiki. We are all energy beings , and energy flows through us and around us. During sickness and ailments or when we are feeling angry or unhappy, this energy gets blocked, stagnant or low. A reiki healer channels healing and and restores the energy balance by using the universal life force i.e reiki energy

Reiki unblocks the energy flow in the body which helps in curing stress, pain and diseases.
During a Reiki session, the healer places his/ her hands on a person in different positions to transfer energy from the universe to the person receiving Reiki. When Reiki is given, the person feels a unique sensation which leaves a pleasant feeling. The patient tends to feel very relaxed and a sense of weight being lifted away from the body.
“I feel very refreshed”, “I feel very relaxed”, “The pain is just gone”, “I feel very emotional”, “Your hands got very hot/ cold”, are the often the things people experience after the treatment.
The Reiki treatment is subjective and unique to every person. Some feel a pulsating wave of energy going through the body, while others simply fall asleep during the session. Sometimes you may find that the reiki receiver is very tired after the treatment, but this is considered signs of healing.
Yes. Reiki therapists can do distant healing , as reiki works on the principle that universal energy connects us all. You can receive a reiki session while sitting in the comforts of your office or your home. It is as effective as taking the treatment personally. In fact, distant reiki healing is a boon for people who cannot go physically to take the treatment.
There are three levels in Reiki namely- First degree, Second degree, Third degree and Reiki GrandMaster.
First degree Reiki is when you learn hands on reiki to self-heal. Second degree is when a person has gained the knowledge of channelizing the energy to heal others and send healing remotely. Third degree or the Reiki masters are the teachers, who are not just capable of healing others but also teaching Reiki to people.
It is recommended to attend a Reiki session of a Reiki master or second degree Reiki healer. Since Reiki is a connection with universal energy. The healer who gives positive vibes and feels right is generally a good sign. A good way would be to have a one on one Reiki healing session with the healer before seeking the treatment . This enables you to share thoughts and issues and helps connect with the healer

Popular television actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide has once again aroused the question ‘why end life this way’? She is the latest to be added to the list of Bollywood Actress Jiah Khan, VJ Nafisa Joseph and the likes. Recently heard of a young medical student committing suicide and I’m sure there are many more who have succumbed, only it hasn’t become national news.
The article doesn’t aim to decipher or decode why Pratyusha committed suicide. But tries to provide a picture as to what causes a person to take such an extreme step. On the outset, the lives of all those mentioned above seemed to be going pretty smoothly, then why such a tragic death? No matter how glamorous or perfect a life seems, everyone has their share of problems. It could be financial issue, relationship, death and the list goes on. When things go wrong or against our expectations, most will hit a low and feel caught in a web of emotions.

However, most would seek the help and support of friends, family, mentors, therapists and the like. Life seems a burden in the midst of a crisis because we are not able to see the bigger picture and remember that ‘this too shall pass’. This is where ‘support system’ becomes so important. Our well-wishers show us what we’re worthy and capable of when we’re focusing on an unsuccessful relationship or project for example.
At this point, as a Psychologist, we help clients reassess life and bring their focus to anything that could uplift them- be it volunteering, a goal or travelling. We all need ‘something to look forward to’- it is essential to help an individual focus on these and help them overcome the short-sighted view of life that normally engulfs during such stressful times.
Sadly, the alarming rate of suicide among youngsters also highlights that their coping mechanism seems inadequate. It is normal to be a little low, moody and depressed when things are not going great but when it goes beyond 2-3 weeks, then the individual ought to seek support. Alcohol and drugs are only a temporary escape from reality. We have to accept the challenge and face it head–on at some point. It seems that especially with high profiles, the need to appear at their best and image management is a priority. I recall a high-profile celebrity stating that he didn’t know how to emotionally be present with his family during a crisis because they are so used to curbing emotions. Too much curtailing and faking of emotions will affect the individual, especially in what seems to be a crisis.
Normally, an individual attempting or committing suicide is usually depressed and/or tends to be impulsive. Studies have shown that adequate support and care many a times prevents suicide. The tendency to magnify an issue is very common in such circumstances. Therefore, the individual feels he/she doesn’t have adequate resources to cope with the issue at hand, and feels death resolves the suffering. I recall reading that it is not death they seek but it’s an avoidance of life.
The least we can do is to reach out to those who seem to be going through a tough phase. This does not mean over powering or taking over them but letting them know that ‘I’m here for you’. Everyone faces some stressor/s- we can choose to take it as a challenge and that’s when it can empower us and thus becomes Eustress or Positive Stress. Else, if we let it engulf us- it becomes Negative Stress or Distress. One thing that i found helpful with my clients is to focus their attention on some goal – no matter how small, so that energy is directed towards it and thus slowly begin the process of healing and self-empowerment. Life is too precious – let’s embrace it with all its ups and downs.
Benefits of Aromatherapy
Imagine how incomplete our lives would be, if you could not smell food, enjoy the smell of flowers, and experience the fresh scents of nature, the sweet smell of a baby…yes!! that’s right they are too good to miss. Our nose provides us with a sense of smell, which is one of the five senses that a body experiences. Smell or aroma plays a significant role in our lives.
The aroma can also be used in a therapeutic way to heal and provide relief from a number of causes, be it beating stress, aiding peace & calm, inducing sleep, relaxation, cold or boosting the immune systems to name a few. Health benefits of aromatherapy include managing depression, reducing stress, beating anxiety, promoting peace & calm, pain management, migraine/headache reduction, aiding digestion and increase in blood circulation. Aromatherapy has been around for long, do you remember when our mother’s and grandmother’s used to make us inhale a few drops of eucalyptus oil for beating cold with or the use of incense sticks for prayers thereby creating a sense of calm or use of herbs for keeping the house free of insects and flies. That’s use of aromatherapy in our daily lives.
The advancement of science and technology has seen a tremendous facelift in the area of aromatherapy as well, oils and extracts of exotic plants and trees are now easily available in the markets. Aromatherapy has been used in India, parts of Europe, USAbut is now gaining popularity all over the world. The oils available in the market today are researched, patented and tested safe for use. Healing for your beloved Pets- Animal Reiki Healing
Is your pet unwell?
Having an infection or dealing with allergies?
Has a troubled stomach and has been refusing to eat?
Well for all above issues and more with your pet, Animal Reiki is the answer. Now you can treat your beloved pets from home, without troubling them with endless vet visits and medicines. Animal Reiki healing is an intriguing subject for many and here we make it easier to understand the doubts and questions around the subject.
Animal Reiki healing is very similar to the concept of Reiki. Reiki is the healing methodology where a healer uses universal energy, “Qi” to energise the body which increases body capacity of healing. Reiki healing can be given by touch method or from a distance. Touch method is where the person is physically present with the healer, Distant Reiki is where the healer and patient are at different locations.
In Animal Reiki, a similar approach is used. Healer uses universal energy to energise the body, concentrating on the problem areas to induce healing. Wondering how well Reiki and animals go together? Well, Animals are better recipients of this type of healing as their instincts are stronger.
Whether you are looking for Reiki for dogs, or Reiki for cats, or Reiki for horses, the process remains the same. The healer will scan the animal using reiki energy, to identify the problem/ disease. This is also known as medical intuitive scans. In a case of Distant Reiki, the healer might want a picture of the animal to establish a connection. Once all this is set up, the healer will channelize the energy to the animal and energise the whole body while concentrating on the problematic areas.
Animal Reiki healing is a very effective method. Humans have a tendency to seek a logical explanation for how, when and what whereas the animals are very accepting of the healing energies given to them. You will often find the animal being very compassionate towards the healer.

The immediate effects as mentioned by several pet owners is that they find there is a feeling of calm and peace in the animals after a reiki session. Soon into the session, the animal usually finds a relaxing spot where it lies or goes into a reiki nap during or just after the session.
You might begin to see good effects of healing straight away but the total number of sessions required can be determined by the healer accessing the condition of the animal.
Reiki is done for all living beings and does not discriminate.Dr.Ghosal says..
While doing so, I could sense a sensation of pricking and a throbbing pain that was caused by it. I had a veterinarian take a look at the dog, and as it had been, there was a thorn in the dog’s paw that was giving a problem.
This is an example to showcase that Reiki can be used for animals/ people who are vulnerable or in pain or hesitant to see a doctor. Reiki can be an effective First Aid Kit.
I did not feel that there was any fracture, during the healing session but I did feel there was an emotional fear. Upon an x-ray, it was known there was no fracture of any kind but Bruno had gone into shock, due to the cultivation of fear. With regular healings for 3 days, Bruno returned to his happy self like nothing had happened.
A typical session would range anywhere from 20-45 minutes.
Yes, animal reiki healing can be taken along with the ongoing treatment. Although reiki is a very strong medium of healing, and can provide wellness to the animal. Please consult with the reiki healer for details.
Distant Reiki is especially beneficial for pet owners or animals who find it difficult to visit the healer. A mutual time can be agreed where the healer can give reiki.
Every living being transmits a different energy. Reiki healers establish a connection with this unique energy transition. Sometimes the healer gives reiki with intent or a photograph or medium to represent the animal (can be the pet owner).
Animal Reiki is gaining a lot of popularity worldwide as it is non-invasive, gentle and has no side effects whatsoever. It doesn’t cause any stress, trauma, discomfort or any pain and yet gives powerful results. Also, reiki works for all types of pets. Even cats and reiki go together very well. Reiki helps in providing energy to the body to heal itself. And when physical healing is not possible, reiki can bring peace and comfort.

Yeay!!! You are now a MOTHER. The struggles of pregnancy now seem irrelevant. The days of morning sickness, achy backs, insomnia seems like a thing of the past once you set your eyes on the tiny miracle that you brought into this world. Now that you are responsible for another life apart from yours, it becomes very essential that you care for your health. And what is better than Postpartum yoga for health?
Postpartum care is the first few weeks upon delivery where the body heals itself from the harrowing experience that is childbirth. This is the time to take it easy, rest as much as possible and heal. The period after delivery is sometimes referred to as the fourth trimester and this is the time to recover physically with yoga after delivery and a great time to bond with the newborn.
Some women think that they will return back to their pre-pregnancy bodies as soon as they have given birth. But your body has seen enormous change- there are bruised and torn tissues that need to be healed, labor itself is pretty hard on your body, you need to recover from it, milk production needs to get underway. Plus the uterus that has been stretched to its limit needs to contract to its pre-pregnancy size.
According to our Yoga therapist, women with vaginal deliveries can start after 2 months and C section moms after 3 months can start Postnatal or postpartum Yoga. Mommies are encouraged to take light walks and also advised to wrap their bellies with postnatal wraps. This not only helps stabilize their stomachs but also supports lower back and boosts confidence.
The key word here is taking it slow. Everything has to be done in a slow and steady pace so as to not shock the body. Care has to be taken while practicing asana and yoga for new moms as the pregnancy hormone Relaxin, which helps in relaxing of joints and thereby allows for widening of hips to facilitate childbirth, is also elevated and will remain so for the next six months or so. This means all of your joints are looser hence less stable.
Read: Preparing childbirth with pre natal yoga
The pushing done during labor makes for a compromised pelvic floor. Shishuasana or child pose asana helps in not only strengthening of the pelvic floor but also provide the hips and the spine with gentle stretching that it needs. One of the major joys of motherhood is tending to the every need of the newborn from breastfeeding to rocking her back to sleep. This results in a tired neck and shoulders to loss of endurance. Gomukhasana and Virabhadrasana not only help build stamina but also provide well needed relief to those tired muscles.
One of the most common physical changes a new mother finds is her protruding belly. There are a lot of asanas and yogas and breathing exercises which go a long way in strengthening your abdominal muscles. But remember, it took nine long months for your stomach to increase, so don’t expect results overnight.
The advantage of postpartum yoga is that it not only boosts your immune system but also improves your posture and balance. Lack of sleep is one of the features of a new mom. Sleep deprivation not only results in depression but also adversely affects the quality of breast milk and decreases your memory and focus. Yoga for mommies not only helps you to focus but also ups the production of serotonin which decreases the chance of postpartum depression. Balancing of wayward hormones and stress can be tackled with various asanas and yogas and breathing exercises. Although, all exercises and post pregnancy yoga should be done under supervision as the wrong type could have an adverse affect on your body and sometimes leads to umbilical hernias.
In conclusion, giving birth is a life changing experience. It is also a body changing experience. Postpartum Yoga may be the last thing on your mind but a few minutes a day practicing it can help you reconnect with your mind and body and help you stay in shape both mentally and physically for the adventure called Parenthood.
